Jewson CricketForce’

In way of background Information about the initiative -

The Jewson CricketForce Scheme is a club-based initiative aimed at rejuvenating Scotland`s cricketing facilities by encouraging cricket supporters, local communities, and their friends and families to volunteer to undertake renovations at their local cricket club in the lead up to the season. The scheme follows in the footsteps of a similar programme run by the ECB that has been hugely successful in promoting the profile of club cricket.

We are hoping that as many cricket clubs sign up to the event and use it as a great opportunity to prepare their facilities and bring together their membership and communities for the start of the season.

The ECB ‘NatWest CricketForce’ has been running since 2005, and has been very successful in encouraging clubs to engage with its local community to gain new volunteers and renovate club facilities. NatWest CricketForce is now the biggest volunteering event in England.

Kwik Cricket Game Manager

This workshop has been designed to introduce the game of 8-a-side pairs Kwik Cricket for those teaching the game at the introductory stage, i.e. those who:

  • are not yet familiar with the game
  • have children experiencing the game for the first time (especially at Primary School)
  • are involved in a cricket club junior section, and/or
  • will be involved in entering teams in Kwik Cricket competitions.

At the end of the course, candidates should be able to:

  • Organise and set-up a Kwik Cricket Game
  • Score a game of Kwik Cricket
  • Umpire a game of Kwik Cricket
  • Understand the rules of Kwik Cricket

They will also be able to do understand the Role of Kwik Cricket in the pathway, i.e. that Kwik Cricket is part of club introductory programmes and is the first game format a player experiences. The importance of Kwik Cricket cannot be undervalued as it is all about:

  • Participation – everyone gets their chance to bat, bowl, field, keep wicket
  • Enjoyment – smiles on faces
  • Safe - environment

Throughout the workshop the tutor will emphasise that everyone involved must experience these two. Kwik Cricket is not about winning and, moreover, introductory programmes are about encouraging participation, enjoyment and ‘getting them to come back’ every week!
